About Us

The Equity in the Job Search Symposium is an annual event that provides practical, hands-on workshops to assist graduate students and postdocs at all stages of the STEM job search. We integrate this career advice with data-driven discussions of gender bias to expand the conversation of gender bias to a larger population. The guiding principle behind the symposium is to overcome bias for all. We aim to impart to our participants the idea that everyone benefits from more inclusivity.

Some sessions focus on educating the attendees about the impacts and implications of gender bias, particularly how it is relevant to the job search, and thus empower them to effect change in their labs and workplaces after graduation. Other sessions provide practical workshops on navigating the job search, integrating the ways that gender bias hampers women into each section.

The goals of our symposium are two-fold:

  1. To increase awareness among the attendees about implicit bias;

  2. To provide resources and support for those initiating the job search.

Attendees

While the symposium is particularly targeted at upper-division graduate students and postdocs preparing for the job market, many sessions are open to the entire Yale community.
